In a typical Lorde fashion, Perfect Places contrasts a seemingly fun party anthem with dark depressive lyrics of loneliness. Lorde's new songs show a more mature songwriter at work and showcase a woman who has just grown into an adult. Lorde's work is evolving with her life, showing that she is a true artist.
Lorde spoke with Rolling Stone contributor Alex Morris about her new album. "It feels like the record of a new adult, it feels like a little baby adult stepping out and being like...this is how I saw it." Lorde is one of the most refreshing commercial artists in this day and age. Instead of trying to recreate her last lucrative hit album, she is evolving and treating her music as the true art it is.
