Top Pics: The Como Mama's. Ya'll Gotta Hear This!

If you haven't heard of Daptone Records yet, you have been missing out on one of the greatest soul labels to hit the scene since Stax records in 1957. Daptone's top acts include Charles Bradley and the late Miss Sharon Jones. All of the music released on their label is recorded in The House of Soul in Daptone's Brooklyn, New York headquarters. Artists such as Amy Winehouse and Bruno Marsh have recorded in Daptone's all analog studio. Each piece of the studio was built by the musicians and founders of Daptone themselves with scavenged supplies in a rundown house they purchased in Brooklyn. The fact that this studio was built from repurposed supplies by the musicians of Daptone, makes this place special and gives all of their records a warmth, and sincerity not heard since the golden days of soul and blues. Daptone’s newest group is compiled of three women from the rural town of Como, Mississippi.

The Como Mamas will be releasing their newest album Move Upstairs, on May 19th 2017. The voices of a gospel choir rumble from rural Mississippi as The Como Mama's smoothly roll into America's speakers. The group presents themselves with the belting grit, power, and sincerity of great gospel and blues singers such as Big Mama Thorton and Bessie Smith. Move Upstairs serves as a time portal to the hot Mississippi sun of the 1950's, making you want to groove and shake along with these fabulous women. The Como Mama’s new album is a must listen if you are into soul and blues. Their music will pull the dance groove out of you. You can stream their new album here.
